This husband-and-wife duo plays a trance-folk that, at every turn in the slipstream, seems to hail from another country: the murder ballads of Appalachia; the plucked-string stasis and Om drone of New York minimalism; the iridescent-Middle East imagination of the Incredible String Band. Singer Shanti and guitarist Buck Curran take Tim Buckley's "Phantasmagoria in Two" at a compelling near-standstill pace; their own "Wolves" is a long circular hush streaked with crying fuzz. Another primary instrument here: the soft oceans of reverb that cushion every minute of this stark and tender balladry.

Here's one of George Downing's new 'Red Bird' Guitars (named after our song). This is a custom order and I have an arrangement with George that part of the proceeds from the sale of any 'Red Bird' guitar is going to the Red Cross to aid Japan. George makes his creations under the name Dismal Ax
and only uses locally harvested and salvaged woods. I've designed a double cutaway version that will debut soon.

Dismal Ax and the Arborea inspired 'Red Bird' guitar to benefit relief efforts in Japan

I've been working with Tennessee guitar maker George Downing 'Dismal Ax' on a guitar design and we are working on a new body design that will be revealed this year. George created the 'Red Bird' model inspired by our song 'Red Bird'. Since I've dedicated that song to the people of Japan, George is also donating a portion from the sales of each guitar to important relief efforts in Japan. Arborea is happy to announce that we've officially signed with the Venerable Portland, Oregon based label
Strange Attractors Audio House for the release of our next record 'Red Planet'! Which also means the album will now be released in Vinyl as well as cd. Release date is scheduled for April 26th.
The album will feature the songs Careless Love, Spain, and arrangement of Tim Buckley's 'Phantasmagoria in Two', and Black is the Colour.
